About the Artist
Hi there! I’m Liza, the artist behind Hodge Podge Art Studio. Sculpting has been my passion ever since I was six years old, when I first discovered the magic of polymer clay. One of my earliest creations—a Donald Duck sculpture—still holds a special place in my dad’s heart (as pictured to the right). While my skills have come a long way since then, that little duck marked the beginning of a lifelong love affair with creating whimsical, imaginative creatures.
Over the years, I’ve sculpted everything from animals and fantasy beings to the occasional human (though I’ll admit, creatures are my true love). My journey with polymer clay began with Sculpey III, which was perfect for my small hands as a child. I spent hours crafting tiny animals, their food, toys, houses, and even miniature currency for my own little world. These days, I primarily work with Super Sculpey—it’s sturdier, less brittle, and comes in larger quantities, making it ideal for my more detailed creations. Its neutral tone also serves as a great base for painting, which has become an integral part of my process.

In my 30s, I discovered the joy of painting my sculptures. Adding color brought a new level of depth and realism to my work, allowing me to breathe life into each piece. I also began experimenting with mixed media, incorporating fabrics, strings, and other materials to add texture and personality. For example, Jerri (pictured to the left) features a mix of fabrics and strings that give him a unique, whimsical charm. Around this time, I also started using CosClay, a flexible clay perfect for delicate parts like Jerri’s nails, which might otherwise be prone to breaking.
Recently, I’ve expanded my artistic horizons by exploring other types of clay and joining a pottery studio. This has been an exciting opportunity to grow as an artist and deepen my understanding of sculpture as a whole. I’ve fallen in love with the process of learning and experimenting, and now I want to share that passion with you.
This website is my way of building a community where we can connect, create, and inspire one another. Whether you’re a fellow artist, a collector, or just someone who loves whimsical art, I hope you’ll find something here that sparks your imagination. Feel free to reach out with ideas, questions, or just to say hello—I’d love to hear from you!
